About us

Iwakuni, a city of 150,000 people in southeastern Yamaguchi Prefecture in Japan, is best known for its structurally unique Kintai-Kyo Bridge. This is the place where Vonita, our founding Director grew up and this forms the first half of our name, Iwa. In the second part of our name, Ton is derived from her father’s former family business, Tony’s.

Iwaton Consultancy is a full-service firm that helps companies enter and expand in markets of their choice. Iwaton was started by Vonita Samtani and Dr. Devendra Kumar Punia who have a cumulative experience of over 50 years across expertise in information technology, sales, marketing, market-entry, research, and strategy. Priya Sachdeva joined as a Director shortly after Dr. Devendra Kumar Punia transitioned out to pursue other opportunities.

Priya Sachdeva has over 19+ years of experience across the apparel retail industry in the South Asia region with a focus on business development, account management, strategy consulting and merchandising.

Priya’s work experience spans across WGSN where she was responsible for WGSN’s overall strategy in the South Asia region and successfully grew WGSN’s business from USD 0.6 Million to USD 3.3 Million by acquiring and retaining clients comprising manufacturers, retailers, brands, educational institutes, and government bodies. Prior to WGSN, she has worked on strategy consulting projects at Technopak. Priya has also worked on the export sector of the apparel industry during her stint with a large Delhi based Buying house.

Priya has a Bachelors’s degree in Economics from SRCC, Delhi University followed by a Masters from NIFT, New Delhi.

Vonita has over 20 years’ experience in international business development, strategy, managing channel partners and market entry. She has grown up in Japan, worked and lived across Japan, Singapore, US, Hong Kong and India while building sales and management teams and converting business opportunities in South Korea, India, Vietnam, Australia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, mainland China and Philippines.

Vonita’s work experience spans across Viacom where she increased revenue through sales efforts for MTV and Nickelodeon. At blue-infinity (Isobar) Vonita launched its Asian presence in Hong Kong through key client Signature French Wines. Vonita worked at Ascential (WGSN and Money 20/20) across South Asia, Japan, Korea, and Singapore building sales teams and augmenting revenues across these markets. Most recently, Vonita worked with Diageo on its Corporate Relations team across the functions of public policy, brand communications, and CSR. Other companies Vonita has worked at include Itochu Corporation, Creative Link Corporation and Japan Partnership Holdings (Tokyo Classified).

Vonita has an MBA from McGill University, a B.A. from Franklin University Switzerland and is adept and passionate about cross border market development and multicultural leadership.
